Hazing and Student Development: Selected Papers

The following papers were written by graduate students in the Student Development in Higher Education masters degree program at the University of Maine. These papers highlight theories of student development as a lens for understanding the problem of hazing in college and university settings. At StopHazing.org, we often receive questions about why hazing occurs and/or how it can be prevented. There are no easy answers to these questions as hazing is a complex problem and can be interpreted from many perspectives. These papers are offered as resources for those seeking further understanding about the dynamics of hazing.
